The Great Shelf Project

Sorry folks, this one is peak dull domestic musings of a middle aged dude doing DIY!

After admiring the shelves over my friend’s computer desk for some time, I finally decided I needed to do something similar. Marie and I have a chronic clutter problem and more storage is always in order.

I had a ‘plan’ of some cheap pine shelves and cheapo brackets, but as often happens the scale and cost has crept up. The Shelf itself was only £15, but then I wanted brackets that didn’t look awful, and I need some decent wall anchors as it’s going on an interior wall. I ended up picking some twin slot uprights so I will have options for my shelf placement. Quite some time was spent mulling over plasterboard fittings in Wickes. So far, I’ve spend £15 on actual shelf and ~£35 on fixtures and fittings.

The saving grace is I will have enough brackets to grab a couple more shelves, and should end up with about 3.8 meters of shelf space for miscellaneous stuff. £21 per meter of shelf space? I suppose it’s not too bad.

Next week it’s find the drill and hope for the best.

Pray for me.
