Welcome
You find youself on the peronsal site know as ‘Squirrel Tales!’
I’m Gareth, a lifelong tinkerer, storyteller, and unabashed nerd, born in the UK during the early eighties and raised on a hearty diet of computers, cardboard tokens, and curiosity.
This blog is my cosy corner of the internet: a digital burrow where I stash the things I’ve made, the oddments I find fascinating, and the occasional nostalgic ramble. It’s a mix of tech, games, personal reflections, and whatever else scampers across my brain on any given day. Previously I’d have shared this stuff on social media, but I felt a need to escape the adverts, the bots and a lot of the negativity. Much of this is wildly niche. Some may be deeply personal. Many may simply be me rambling. But they’re all part of the stash.
Geeky Roots
I’ve always been drawn to games; computer games, board games, card games, roleplaying games. When I was young I enjoyed Risk and Cluedo, then wandered into the worlds of Warhammer and Magic: The Gathering. The real turning point came when I found a copy of Twilight Imperium: Third Edition in a toy shop. That game led me into a whole new realm of games beyond Monopoly and Scarbble, and I’ve never really looked back.
Tech Tales
Right alongside games came a love for technology and how things work, how things break, and how to (sometimes) fix them. I still remember watching my dad key in magazine programs on a NewBrain microcomputer. Later came a battered Commodore 64 and a crash course in BASIC, which set the stage for an ongoing interest in coding, electronics, and building things just for the fun of it.
A Note on Health
In my teens, I was diagnosed with ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), sometimes labelled Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It’s a condition that reshapes time and energy. On good days, I write, tinker, and create. On the harder ones, I rest and regroup.
Thanks for Visiting Whether you’ve arrived here for games, gadgets, gentle rambles, or just a slice of quiet internet woodland, you’re very welcome. Brew a cup of something warm, settle in, and have a wander. The tales are here if you’d like to read them, and if not, that’s fine too.
